The Indian telecommunication company, Airtel, which is owned by Bharti Enterprises(64%) and Singapore Telecommunications Limited(36%), is going to sell its Ghana business, which is AirtelTigo, to the Ghana government for Rs 184.6 crores approx. Airtel owns the 49.95 non-owner rights of this company, and it is selling all his stakes to the government.
This drastic step is taken by Airtel because, day by day, their user base is decreasing, and they have slipped down to lower positions from the second largest telecommunication company in Ghana. As they face some big losses and believe that with the speed with which their user base is decreasing soon, it will completely vanish.

As they can’t bear such huge losses when they know the results are zero, hence they are selling all their stakes in the company to the Ghana government, so all the stakes, assets, customer base, and everything else will shift to the Ghana government, and this deal is expected two be finalized within a few weeks between both the parties.
Ghana will be the first country where Airtel has exited, and this is due to the even competition and poor facilities to the Ghana citizens. Also, in India, Airtel is not going so well, and most of the people are shifting from Airtel to Jio, and this doesn’t seem to be excellent news for the Airtel owners, employees, shareholders, and others.
